A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier

I’ve recently finished reading A Long Way Gone, a book about a boy in the civil war of Sierre Lione.

Always hearing about the war but never truly seeing it, Ishmael was a boy in Mogbwemo, a small village in the west. At age 12 he was an innocent school boy. By 15, Ishmael was a cold killer in the army.

This is a story about how war can change anybody’s perspective on life. Ishmael was afraid of death; he was burdened by it’s likeness to melting ice: cold and slow.

Read a story that no bystander of the war could ever write. Video after the break.
